Artisan Tea Room is a cozy café nestled on 51 Front Street in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, offering a laid-back spot that feels welcoming whether you’re popping in for a quick coffee or settling down for a relaxed lunch. The interior carries a charmingly eclectic mix of seating, from mismatched chairs to snug corners, making it the kind of place where you might find locals reading quietly, meeting up for a catch-up, or dropping by with a dog in tow—there’s even a pet bed thoughtfully provided.

Locals seem drawn to Artisan Tea Room not just for the friendly vibe but also for the genuinely satisfying food and drink. The coffee is a highlight, pairing perfectly with house favourites like the chocolate cake, which has earned its fans for being a rich, comforting treat. The menu also leans into simple, well-executed classics—think fresh egg sandwiches and warming soup—offered at reasonable prices that suit everyday visits. If you’re gluten-free, this café caters well to dietary needs without making it feel like an afterthought.

Community thrives here in subtle ways: Artisan Tea Room hosts regular local gatherings such as writing, supper, and book clubs, which add a layer of familiarity and connection beyond the usual café bustle. It's a clean, well-run space that handles busy moments—such as an 80th birthday celebration—without losing its steady rhythm, thanks largely to an attentive single staff member who keeps things running smoothly.

Best times to visit tend to be late mornings through mid-afternoon, when the café's relaxed vibe is at its peak and the chance to enjoy a warming bowl of cullen skink or a fresh quiche pairs well with watching the ebb and flow of Newbiggin’s Front Street. Whether you’re a local looking for a quiet corner or a traveler wanting to experience everyday life by the sea, Artisan Tea Room offers an approachable, unpretentious setting to enjoy good food, coffee, and community.

You always excel Lindsey. As if you aren’t busy enough, thank you for arranging all the poppy knitting to decorate The Memorial Park in Newbiggin. They look lovely

So impressed with this place. We arrived at the same time as a huge 80th birthday was taking place and almost left because it seemed unrealistic to expect the lady working on her own to be able to serve us any time soon. We were reassured, however and before long were served the most delicious lunch. Super tasty soup, best egg sandwich and chocolate cake we had ever had and for a very reasonable price. Dog friendly too, we will definitely be back!

We had a tasty bowl of cullen skink and a quiche, together with a cream and lemon curd scone. Its a nice place, with good feel and well run.

Lovely local eatery with a lovely welcome. My sister and I stopped here for a bite to eat while walking our dog, and we'll certainly be making our way back in the future. It's a beautiful little setting, with a mish Mash of chairs and tables on offer, a pet bed available for the pup, and local artists and producers crafts on offer to purchase. The food was good, and the coffee was great. I decided upon a rather unusual Sconewich and wasn't disappointed in the least. A sun dried tomato and cheese scone filled with bacon and onion chutney, it was a brilliant concept, and one I thoroughly enjoyed. My sister decided upon a slice of the homemade chocolate cake, and that was lovely too. Cheap, welcoming, and delicious, this cafe is perfect for a quick stop or for afternoon tea. Dogs are welcome (if well behaved), I highly recommend.

Very busy but we'll worth the wait. Lovely hot chocolate and delicious carrot cake, and a gluten free coconut cake for my friend. Both beautifully moist. Dogs welcomed, water bed and treats for them. Service was very friendly and prices reasonable, 2 hot chocolate and 2 cake for £10.30. Definitely worth every penny. The more substantial meals looked delicious will have to try something next time

Lovely tea room, comfortable and stylish with a relaxing atmosphere. Welcoming owner who knows how to rustle up a fabulous brekkie sandwich and cracking coffee. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Newbiggin by the Sea.

The ambience is delightfully warm and inviting. The hosts are so friendly and nothing is too much. The food is certainly the freshest I've had anywhere and drinks are hot which I've found to be a rarity these days. My mother loved the quiche and that's a rarity too !!.
